source: www.durantdemocrat.comTULSA (AP) - A $50 million biodiesel plant planned at the Port of Muskogee could create dozens of jobs and pump in $100,000 in annual revenue for the port.
Houston-based Nova Energy Holding Inc. plans to build a refinery that would convert animal and vegetable oils into biodiesel, which can be mixed with regular diesel to produce cleaner fuels.
The Muskogee plant would be able to handle 25 kinds of feed stock, including vegetable and animal oils, fats and greases.
If building permits are approved by the Muskogee City-County Port Authority, construction would take a year.
When the plant opens, it would employ 15 to 25 people.
Nova also would pay the Port of Muskogee $70,000 a year in rent and 12.5 cents per ton for material shipped through the port. Annual revenue from the plant could reach $100,000.
“They have a proven technology, and they're sophisticated compared to some places we've looked at,” said port director Scott Robinson. “We feel they're going to be a strong company.”
Nova officials have said their long-term plans are to build seven biodiesel refineries in the next three years, with production capacity ranging from 20 million to 60 million gallons a year.
